Munich Re appoints a company veteran as its new CEO for Singapore.
Tobias Frenz has been appointed as the new CEO for Munich Re’s Singapore branch to oversee the non-life and life and health branches in the city-state, as well as the regional life and health digital business, the reinsurer said in a press release Thursday.
Frenz will hold the new role in addition to his existing role as the head of digital solutions for life and health in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East regions. He will remain based in Singapore, reporting to Daniel Cossette, chief executive for life and health for the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa, the release said. He replaces James Park, who will pursue an opportunity outside of the company.
Frenz has been at Munich Re for 20 years, holding roles in client management and leadership in Germany, the UAE, Malaysia, and Singapore, the release said, adding he also led the Retakaful, or Islamic reinsurance, business. His digital solutions role is to oversee the development of services using artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analysis, automated underwriting, and claims.
Property and Casualty Appointment
In addition, Munich Re said it tapped Surbhi Goel, who is managing director and head of property and casualty, to take on responsibility for the Singapore and Southeast Asia property and casualty business. She will report to Roland Eckl, who is chief executive for Japan, India, South Korea, Singapore, and Southeast Asia.
Goel joined Munich Re in April from its joint venture in India, HDFC ERGO, where she was responsible for reinsurance, property, and casualty underwriting.
