Citi has appointed a 25-year banking veteran as its new chief executive for Hong Kong and Macau.
Citi appoints Aveline San as CEO of Hong Kong and Macau as well as CEO of Citibank N.A., Hong Kong, according to a statement, effective immediately. In her new role, San reports to head of North & East Asia cluster Tim Monger.
San has 25 years of banking experience and joined Citi in April 2019 as its regional chief compliance officer for Asia Pacific. Prior to that, she worked at UBS for 14 years in various senior management positions including APAC group regional head of compliance & operational risk control and general counsel of wealth management for North Asia.
«Hong Kong is a key growth market and regional hub for Citi,» said Monger. «As we continue to grow our wealth management and institutional clients business in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, [San's] deep understanding of the operating environment and key issues in the region make her the ideal leader to steer the Hong Kong franchise forward.»
San succeeds 24-year Citi banker Angel Ng who in April was named APAC head of the global wealth management, a unit that covers the full range of client segments from affluent to high net worth individuals.
