Unlike some of his predecessors, the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s current managing director Ravi Menon said that he will not join politics after retiring from the central bank.
Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) managing director Ravi Menon ruled out an entrance into politics after stepping down from his role at the central bank at the end of this year. This deviates from other ex-colleagues like Heng Swee Keat, Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Richard Hu who served as finance ministers after leaving the MAS.
«There are other good things you can do without becoming finance minister, although our finance minister does a very good job,» said Menon in an interview with «Bloomberg».

On his actual plans after retirement, Menon noted that he was currently still only exploring his interests and possible pursuits.
«I’ve always had an interest in innovation and technology, in social inclusion, in climate action and sustainability. I hope to do something in these areas,» he noted.
Menon will retire from the MAS on December 31 this year and successor Chia Der Jiun will start on 1 January 2024.
