Insurance giant Prudential has hired a 22-year Credit Suisse veteran as its chief economist.

Prudential has appointed Ray Farris as chief economist, according to a statement. In the newly created role, he will drive economic analysis and insights for both Prudential and Eastspring, its Asian asset management arm. Based in Singapore, he reports to to Eastspring Investments’ chief investment officer (CIO) Vis Nayar.

Farris has 30 years of experience as an economist and strategist. He spent 22 years at Credit Suisse in various leadership roles, most recently as global chief economist and CIO for the Americas, based in New York. He started his career in Hong Kong in 1991 as head of economics and equity strategy at Crosby Securities.
