Against a backdrop of turbulent regional markets, auction house Sotheby’s will hold its first fine and rare wine event in Hong Kong on January 30.
The sale will feature an extensive selection of wines and spirits from distinguished private collectors consisting of 888 lots, a lucky number Sotheby’s hope.
Of particular note will be significant parcel quantities of Château Lafite, Carruades de Lafite, Château Calon-Ségur, Château DuhartMilon and Château Pontet-Canet that will be on offer.
Rare Whisky Gaining Ground
Another notable highlight of the auction could be an impressive selection of spirits featuring rare single malt vertical of The Macallan from 1945-1986. Rare whisky has also been attracting strong interest from Asian collectors in recent years.
However, with liquidity flowing out of the regional markets it will be interesting to assess how much importance the Asian passion investors put on the first auction of the year or they hold back until a floor has been established across the markets.
