Hong Kong based Sir Michael Kadoorie’s Quail Lodge and Golf Club, set in the picturesque Carmel Valley in California USA, is again readying itself for the most glamorous automotive event of the year, the Monterey Collector Car Week and Quail Lodge Auction.
The week long festival of rare and classic cars draws a global audience and based on this years exceptional auction results for art, jewellery and even handbags in Hong Kong, London and New York the likelihood is for more record numbers for the four wheeled passion investments. It will be interesting to see if mainland Chinese buyers bid for any of the rare cars.
Kadoorie himself is an avid classic car enthusiast and can count several rare vehicles in his own collection including a Bugatti Type 57.
Auction house Bonham’s will return to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula for its 18th annual Quail Lodge Auction, featuring the world's finest and most exclusive collectors' motorcars displayed in a stunning setting on the grounds of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club.
One of the landmark events taking place during the must-attend "Monterey Collector Car Week", the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction is the longest-running auction on the Monterey Peninsula, and is therefore one of the true highlights during a week of activities that serves as the focal point for the California summer motoring season.
With 117 cars on offer and a 92% sell-through rate, the 2014 two-day auction, which many were dubbed the "sale of the year," brought a total sales figure of $108,000,000.
In addition to the record-making sale of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which made history when it achieved over $38million, making it the most valuable car to ever be sold at auction, Bonhams went on to set several more records throughout the auction.
As always, Bonhams is pleased to hold its 18th annual Quail Lodge Auction in conjunction with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2015. Malcolm Barber, Bonhams Co-Chairman, adds, "it's been a pleasure to partner with The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, one of the world's premier collector car events, and bring a truly blue chip selection of motorcars to Carmel."
