4. Arbitrage (2012)

Richard Gere was originally cast as Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s seminal «Wall Street,» but reportedly turned down the role. He got his shot at playing a finance top shot in «Arbitrage,» released four years ago. Unlike many post-crisis flicks, the film isn’t a reckoning of what happened in 2008/09. Instead, it is a crime thriller and family drama: Gere plays a crooked hedge fundie who causes an accident after falling asleep at the wheel, killing his mistress.

The ensuing cover-up threatens not only his marriage and relationship with his daughter, who co-manages the hedge fund, but also the firm’s planned sale. How far will he go to protect his wealth and position? Susan Sarandon, Laetitia Casta and Brit Marling as Gere’s wife, mistress and daughter, respectively, round out the cast.
