1. Trading Places (1983)

It’s been more than 30 years since the Eddie Murphy-Dan Aykroyd comedy was released, but it has lost none of its comedic brilliance. Murphy’s down-and-out character switches places with Aykroyd's child of Wall Street – part of a $1 bet orchestrated by two wealthy elderly brothers. Initially clueless, Murphy and Aykroyd eventually team up to plot revenge for the experiment, hitting the brothers where it hurts most – their trading portfolio.

«Trading Places» is also the only film in finews.asia's top-ten list with redeeming value beyond pure entertainment: its plot line centers on insider trading in commodities, which wasn’t actually illegal when the film was released in 1983. When the practice was banned as part of finance laws six years ago, the commodities provision became known as the «Eddie Murphy Rule».
