UBS' Australia and New Zealand chief economist is set to depart the firm, his replacement has been named

An internal memo seen by finews.asia, said Scott Haslem was leaving UBS to pursue opportunities outside sell-side research.

The memo was co-authored by research boss Simon Mitchell and global chief economist Arend Kapteyn who jointly said «Since joining the firm in 1998, Scott has made an invaluable contribution to the business and has led a consistently top-rated Australian Economics team over the past 10 years.»

Replacement Lined Up

The Swiss bank moved quickly saying George Tharenou, who joined UBS in 2006, will take up the role of chief economist, Australia & New Zealand.

Prior to 2006, he was an analyst at the Reserve Bank of Australia and an economist at the Queensland Treasury.

The memo also said UBS would look to hire an economist to work with Tharenou and Haslem remains at UBS until the end of August to ensure a smooth transition.
