ANZ announced a new group general manager Communications and Public Affairs.
In this newly created role Tony Warren has been recruited to integrate ANZ’s government, communications, community and sustainability functions; help drive cultural change at the bank; and lead the program to better engage with ANZ’s customers and all levels of government.
Emphasising the importance of the role Warren will report directly to chief executive officer Shayne Elliott.
He is expected to be based in Canberra and will start at ANZ on 3 October, the bank said on its website.
High Level Operator
Warren joins ANZ after a decade at Telstra, where he was most recently group executive, Corporate Affairs.
He was credited with rebuilding Telstra’s relationships with regulators, government and the media.
As part of this change, the group general manager Corporate Affairs, Gerard Brown, and the group general manager Corporate Communications, Paul Edwards, will report to Warren.
Rebuilding Required
Along with its peer group ANZ has been under fire from both the Australian government and the financial regulator, and its CEO Elliott has also been outspoken on the recent Tax Levy moves.
The new appointment will surely smooth the way for Elliott to get on with running the bank with Warren rebuilds the key relationships.
Commenting on the move Elliott said, «ANZ is committed to rebuilding our relationships with government, our customers and the wider community. Tony’s appointment is an important sign we are focused on driving a culture of trust, integrity and character throughout the bank.»
