ANZ Bank New Zealand appointed the country's former prime minister as chairman.
Sir John Key replaces John Judge, who will retire as chair in January next year, a position he has held since 2012. Judge joined the board in December 2008 as an independent non-executive director, the bank said in a press release.
Banking Pedigree
Key was prime minister of New Zealand from 2008 to 2016 and prior to entering politics, was the head of global foreign exchange for Merrill Lynch and a member of the foreign exchange committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Executive directors at ANZ New Zealand include Chief Executive David Hisco, ANZ Group Chief Risk Officer Nigel Williams, and ANZ Group Chief Executive Shayne Elliott. ANZ Group Chief Operating Officer Michelle Jablko is an alternate director for Elliott.
«Sir John Key's strong international career in banking and his understanding of and contacts across the Asia Pacific – where many Australian and New Zealand companies are increasingly trading – will add great value to the governance of ANZ,» ANZ Group Chairman David Gonski said.
