Standard Chartered's regional CEO for Asean and South Asia and head of commercial and private banking, Anna Marrs, will leave the London-based banking group later this year.
High-profile American banker Anna Marrs is leaving Standard Chartered in September, the British bank said in a statement on Wednesday. Marrs will return to London to take up a senior role with another unnamed financial services company, the bank said.
Her departure after six years with Standard Chartered is a surprise, even if Marrs telegraphed her desire to move closer to her family earlier this month in an interview with «Asian Banking & Finance». Previously, she was a partner at McKinsey and has been a vocal backer of women advancing in finance roles.
Mighty Blow
It is a mighty blow for Standard Chartered in the region because Marrs holds a dual role: she is CEO for ASEAN and South Asia as well as CEO of commercial and private banking. The surprise move sparks changes at both divisions.
Marrs will continue in her current role as regional CEO for ASA until the end of May, when she will hand over regional responsibilities to Judy Hsu, CEO for Singapore and Asean markets, as previously announced. Hsu will remain CEO for Singapore until a successor is appointed.
Return to London
Didier von Daeniken will continue to run private banking and wealth management. For his wealth responsibilities, the Swiss banker will report to Ben Hung, CEO for greater China and north Asia and CEO of retail banking. For his private banking responsibilities, he will report to Tracy Clarke, regional CEO for Europe and Americas.
Commercial banking will report into Simon Cooper, CEO for corporate and institutional banking, effective immediately. Jiten Arora, regional head for commercial banking in the Asean region and South Asia, will take interim responsibility for the commercial banking business, with a permanent head to be appointed in due course.
