Malaysia's anti-graft body has joined the hunt for Low Taek Jho, one of the most prominent faces of the 1MDB scandal. Is the Malaysian financier about to cooperate with investigators?
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) wants to speak to Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low and another individual. The MACC said it was looking for the 37-year-old Low as it probes SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1MDB, Malaysia's «New Straits Times» reports.
Low, who has frequently been touted as the ultimate witness on alleged wrong-doing at 1MDB, has instructed his lawyers to make contact with the Malaysian officials after a summons was issued by the anti-corruption body, «Bloomberg» reports.
The Missing Link
U.S. prosecutors allege the baby-faced Malaysian financier is the brain behind billions which have disappeared at the sovereign wealth fund. Low has rarely surfaced since being pegged by investigators two years ago; his whereabouts are unknown.
Old-new Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said that he «roughly» knows where Low is. Mahathir, who has championed a revival of the graft probe since his shock election last month, called for Low to return. He has reportedly spent much of the past two years cruising around Thailand, Cambodia, China and Hong Kong, onboard his 92-meter luxury superyacht – at least, until Indonesia seized the $260 million yacht on behalf of U.S. investigators.
