The suspect in the Standard Chartered Bank robbery, which took place on 7 July 2016, arrived in Singapore from the U.K. on Tuesday to face charges of robbery and money laundering.
After several attempts to stop his extradition were rejected by U.K. courts, custody of David James Roach was handed over to Singapore authorities on Monday. On Tuesday, the Canadian national arrived in Singapore, where he was charged in a district court via video link, according to a news release by the Singapore Police Force.
Roach did not show Covid-19 symptoms during a medical check-up, but will be placed under a 14-day segregation for observation while under legal custody, according to a «New Paper» report.
He will return to court through video link on April 7. If convicted of robbery, he can be jailed for between two and 10 years and given at least six strokes of the cane. His money laundering charge carries a jail term of up 10 years and a fine of up to $500,000, or both.

Roach, who entered Singapore on a social visit pass on 26 June 2016, is accused of robbing Standard Chartered's Holland Village branch of over $30,000 on the morning of 7 July 2016.
During the alleged robbery, Roach handed a piece of paper that read «This is a robbery. I have a gun in my bag» to a bank teller. He then placed his hand into his bag. He fled the same day to Thailand with the proceeds
