The wealth and asset management arm of Canadian multinational financial services firm Manulife has appointed a London-based global head of ESG research and integration, and a Singapore-based head of ESG, Asia.

Manulife Investment Management has appointed Peter Mennie as global head of ESG research and integration, the firm announced on Wednesday, as part of a wider reorganization of the team globally.

Leading its research team in Asia is Eric Nietsch, who was previously director of ESG integration and research, Asia. Nietsch joined the firm last year, and has 10 years of experience in investment in both ESG and credit during his time at ratings firm S&P, investment bank Barclays and Storm Harbor Securities.

Nietsch is based in Singapore and reports Mennie. Tim Chan, senior analyst, ESG research and integration, will continue in his role and support the region's activity from Hong Kong.

Veteran Promoted

Based in London, Mennie, who has been with Manulife IM for more than two decades, was most recently its global head of investment risk management and quantitative analytics. He will concurrently hold that role with his new one, and reports to Christopher Conkey, global head of public markets.

Mennie's expanded role will be supported by Amirali Assef, who was appointed deputy head of investment risk. Assef, who joined the firm in 2011, was previously managing director, investment risk.

Conkey said the firm is «firmly committed to collaborative ESG integration across our portfolios, creating differentiated opportunities for investors in global markets.»
