The meme cryptocurrency has been on a tear recently, spiking more than 10,000 percent year to date.
Goldman Sachs managing director Aziz McMahon, is said to have quit after more than 14 years at the company, having made «millions» on Dogecoin, according to a report by «eFinancialCareers» on Tuesday.
McMahon's colleagues confirmed his departure to the publication. McMahon, who was in charge of emerging market sales at the U.S. investment bank, is planning on opening a hedge fund, «The Telegraph» said (behind paywall), citing unnamed sources.
According to Coinmarketcap, Dogecoin is the fourth-biggest cryptocurrency, with a market capitalization of around $65 billion as of 12 May.
To the Moon
«Dogefather,» Tesla chief Elon Musk, hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live on Sunday, during which he called the meme cryptocurrency a «hustle,» prompting it to plunge to a low of 47 cents, from 70 cents before the episode was aired. His previous tweets have been a major driver of interest in the cryptocurrency.
Musk also announced that his SpaceX venture will accept the cryptocurrency to fund a lunar mission next year with Geometric Energy Corporation.
