Hong Kong’s new chief executive John Lee signaled the possibility amid widespread expectations that travel curbs will be relaxed under his administration.
Hong Kong has ruled out a return to 21-day hotel quarantines for arrivals in the city, according to newly appointed leader John Lee in the first Q&A session held Wednesday before the city parliament since taking office on July 1. In addition, he also said that health minister Lo Chung-mau has been instructed to explore the possibility of cutting the existing 7-day quarantine period.
Nonetheless, there are suggestions that the remaining internal restrictions will remain expansive, as Lee underlined his opposition to «lying flat» – a popular term coined in China that means to do nothing.
«Regarding anti-epidemic strategies, I do not agree with lying flat, allowing infection numbers to increase arbitrarily, as there will be risks of serious and fatal case number increasing proportionally, when the base number increases,» according to a report by local media «The Standard» that cited Lee.
