The Bank for International Settlements is reportedly planning to host an event in Hong Kong to gather central bankers worldwide.
Hong Kong has been chosen as the venue of choice for a gathering of central bankers hosted by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), according to an «SCMP» report citing Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) deputy chief Clare Chan. The «Basel Committee on Banking Supervision» meeting will be held in March.
«We have been preparing for the meeting of central bankers, international financial regulators and the global financial leaders,» said Chan during a meeting with local lawmakers.
«The HKMA will also work with the local financial sector to visit Southeast Asia and the Middle East to exchange views with the central banks and other financial leaders this year to enhance cross-border cooperation.»
More Events
According to HKMA chief executive Eddie Yue, the city’s central bank will host more events this year, including another financial summit in November. In November 2022, Hong Kong hosted the «Global Financial Leaders’ Investment Summit» which saw over 200 financiers attend despite ongoing Covid-linked restrictions at the time.
«We encourage more international financial organizations to host events and seminars in Hong Kong,» Chan added.
Basel-based BIS was founded in 1930 and established its Asian office in Hong Kong in 1998. Its membership includes 45 central banks and bank supervisors from 28 jurisdictions, according to its website.
