The headline money laundering case in Singapore continues to result in convictions, including the latest prison sentence issued to the seventh accused individual.
Chen Qingyuan has been sentenced to 15 months in jail over his role in Singapore’s S$3 billion ($2.2 billion) money laundering case, according to a «Straits Times» report citing court proceedings. S$21.3 million of the S$23 million in seized assets will also be forfeited to the state. The sentence relates to the conviction of two money laundering charges and one forgery-related charge. In total, Chen, 34, faced 10 charges.
Chen becomes the seventh convicted out of the 10 individuals who were arrested in August 2023. The other six convicted – Vang Shuiming, Su Wenqiang, Su Haijin, Wang Baosen, Su Baolin and Zhang Ruijin – received prison sentences of 13 to 15 months.
