A renowned Asian banker has joined the ranks of an emerging advisory firm that sees two particular business opportunities of generational proportions.
Porta Advisors, a Zurich domiciled, independent firm with an international scope has hired Kenneth Ho, Managing Partner and Founder of Asian Multi family office Carret Private Investments in Hong Kong, as member of its International Advisory Committee (IAC), finews.asia can exclusively report.
«With regard to Asia our priority is to have highest quality and trusted relationships in Hong Kong and Singapore,» said Beat Wittmann (pictured below), Partner at Porta Advisors.
Back to the Future Business Model
The company, established in 2015, is an independent financial advisory firm that supports financial institutions, family offices, and corporates in pursuing their strategic, financial, and investment objectives.
«It might be important to pointing out that at Porta Advisors we pursue a ‹back to the future› independent business model and strategy of the traditional corporate advisory type merchant bank boutiques, where partners put their own capital at risk and where there there is full alignment with clients' interest,» adds Beat Wittmann who used to work for Julius Baer, UBS and Credit Suisse in the past.
A Wall Street Icon
Kenneth Ho, an American citizen, worked from 2006 until 2015 for Julius Baer where he was Head Of Investment Solutions Group in Asia and launched the first Renminbi products. Last year he left the Swiss bank and joined Carret (CAM).
CAM was founded in 1963 by Philip L. Carret, a Wall Street icon and investment legend who pioneered the concept of value investing. He first introduced value investing in a series of «Barron's» articles in 1927 and further described the concept in his 1930 book, «The Art of Speculation».
Philip Carret put his ideas into action in 1928, when he founded one of the world's first mutual funds, the Pioneer Fund, which he managed with great success for more than half a century. In 1963, seeking to provide personalized investment services, he founded CAM.
Entrepreneurial Individuals
«We have set up an International Advisory Committee with a few entrepreneurial, experienced and distinguished individuals, whom we have known and worked with in previous roles of our careers,» said Beat Wittmann talking to finews.asia.
In the IAC, Kenneth Ho joins Julian Garel-Jones, Founder and Director of London and Singapore based Polunin Capital Partners, as well as Ola Carle, CEO of Carle & Co in London.
Closely Interlinked
The partners at Porta Advisors currently see two particular business opportunities of generational proportions; on one side the post 2008-crisis transformation of the financial industry and the post natural resources super-cycle bust of many emerging and frontier markets.
«In quite many ways these two topics are closely interlinked as no economy can successfully and sustainably develop without an open, competitive and optimally regulated banking system and capital markets,» says Beat Wittmann.
