After spells with J. Safra Sarasin and the Royal Bank of Canada Wealth Management, Grace Barki has been appointed as Managing Director covering Southeast Asia at Pictet in Singapore.
This was revealed by the «Asian Private Banker» (article behind paywall). Yesterday finews.asia reported on Pictet's intention of moving positions in Switzerland over to Asia to both cut costs and show commitment to an increasingly important region for the firm.
Barki has held several roles in Singapore during her lengthy wealth management career. Prior to her years with UBS she built a career with Citibank.
First Experience at Citigroup
Before joining UBS in 2004, she worked for Citigroup Private Bank. She began her career with Citibank in Singapore and Jakarta in 1985, when she participated in the program for developing leaders. Subsequently it was on trading operations she focused and Barki took over in 1994 as Head of Corporate Finance and Local Corporate Group. She was promoted to Head of Corporate Banking in 1996 and in 1998 joined the Regional Risk Division in Singapore.
In 2002 she returned to Jakarta and took on the role of Country Manager Indonesia for Citigroup Private Bank. In 2004 she was appointed to the Management Acquisition Team of the Private Bank in Indonesia.
Multilingual Banker
Later in the year she joined UBS. Barki has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma. She speaks English, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, and the Sundanese and Javanese dialect.
