Tokyo-headquartered Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group has appointed a new chief executive to succeed a 43-year industry veteran.
Alan J. Wilson retires as MSIG Asia CEO, effective April 1, according to a statement, and he will be succeeded by Clemens Philippi, current Asia chief operating officer.
Wilson will support the transition process as a senior advisor until early July 2022 while remaining as director of MISG Asia and executive officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (Japan) and deputy head of the international business department. He will continue to sit on seven other boards and will continue to be based in Singapore.
Philippi has over 20 years of insurance experience and joined MSIG in April in the current role alongside other positions such as director of MISG Asia and non-executive director on several boards. Previously, he also worked at Allianz Group for seven years in Singapore.
43-Year Veteran
Wilson has 43 years of experience, including 40 years in Asia, and has been MSIG Asia’s CEO for 14 years.
«Wilson has a sound executive management track record. He helped lead and navigate MSIG Asia in meeting its top line and profitability targets last year amidst the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic,» the statement said.
