Manulife has relocated its chief financial officer to Hong Kong to become Asia’s new chief executive officer.
Manulife appoints Phil Witherington as president and CEO of Manulife Asia, according to a statement, effective July 1. He is currently the Canadian insurer’s global chief financial officer (CFO) and will relocate from Toronto to Hong Kong to take on the new role.
Witherington has over two decades of experience and first joined Manulife in 2014 before becoming CFO in 2017. Previously, he also worked at HSBC, AIA and KPMG.
Witherington replaces Damien Green, who will become the chair of Manulife Financial Asia. Green was named Asia CEO in May 2022.
