US-based Goldman Sachs has added a regional chairmanship role for former Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg.
Former Australian treasurer Josh Frydenberg has been named to a new role, according to a «Bloomberg» report citing an internal memo. At the US bank, he will become chairman of Australia and New Zealand, succeeding Christian Johnson who retired in March.
Frydenberg will also retain his existing position as senior regional advisor for Asia Pacific, a role he took on in July 2022.
Political Career
Prior to joining Goldman, Frydenberg had a 13-year political career after first being elected to the Australian parliament in 2010. Before becoming the nation's federal treasurer in 2018, he served in other senior roles including environment and energy minister. Previously, he also worked at Deutsche Bank before kickstarting his political career.
«In this role, [Frydenberg] will focus on further deepening and strengthening client coverage across the [Australia and New Zealand] region,» said the memo authored by banking chiefs Simon Rothery and Kevin Sneader. «He will continue to offer advice on economic and geopolitical issues as the firm’s senior regional advisor for Asia Pacific.»
A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.
