OCBC’s private banking arm has hired a former portfolio manager from Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC.

Bank of Singapore has appointed Dr. Owi S. Ruivivar as chief portfolio strategist – a newly created role – according to a statement. Based in Singapore, she reports to chief investment officer Jean Chia and will also join the bank’s investment committee which makes decisions on strategic and tactical asset allocation.

Ruivivar has over 30 years of experience in economics, investment strategy and portfolio management. She was most recently working at GIC, spearheading its investment-oriented thematic research at the economics and investment strategy department while also leading the future markets investing team. Prior to that, she worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, BNP Paribas and the International Monetary Fund.

Research Capabilities

Bank of Singapore has been strengthening its research capabilities as of late. Last week, it formed a «Chief Investment Office Global Advisory Council» made up of eight experts from top think tanks and asset managers worldwide.

«Building intellectual capital is a key part of the bank’s strategy to become the top private bank in Asia. In today’s knowledge-driven economy, we aim to enhance our competitive advantage by hiring and developing talent in research and portfolio management capabilities,» Chi commented.
