UBS has hired a veteran Japanese banker to bolster its business with wealthy clients in the country.
Zurich-based UBS has hired Yoshikazu Kato (pictured) as a vice-chairman for its wealth management operations in Japan, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia and confirmed by UBS.
Kato’s banking career spans some 38 years. 29 years with Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ (1979-2008) and 9 years with HSBC (2008-2017).
At HSBC Japan he was most recently a corporate advisor of the British-Asian bank, and prior to that was head of Banking Japan.
In his new role Kato will support the coverage and acquisition of new clients, and work closely with client advisors in providing clients with access to UBS' services.
