UBS is hiring a Barclays veteran to beef up its compliance in London. She will be tasked with helping set the Swiss bank's longer-term control strategy.

Zurich-based UBS has snapped up Natasha Meaney as its chief administrative officer, according to a memo provided by the Swiss bank.

Meaney is a forensic psychologist and 11-year veteran of Barclays, where she was the main compliance officer for investment banking's non-core and treasury areas until last autumn.

«Natasha will play a key role in supporting me in defining and implementing our longer-term strategy and key initiatives,» said James Oates, UBS' compliance and risk control head.

Scandal Past

UBS – and Barclays – have surfaced in some of banking's largest scandals in recent years, including manipulation of benchmark interest rate Libor, precious metals and foreign exchange.

The Swiss bank has also faced down several probes over stowing hidden offshore accounts for wealthy tax dodgers, as well as in 2011 Britain's largest trading fraud.

Meaney, who is based in London, will be responsible for UBS' governance, business management and reporting processes and teams.
