Law firm White & Case has enhanced its Global Antitrust Practice in the Asia-Pacific region.
Based in Tokyo, former secretary general of the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) Hideo Nakajima joins the firm as a special advisor.
As secretary general, a position he served in from January 2014, Nakajima encouraged cooperation among competition authorities, contributed to the convergence of competition law enforcement and policy and consultation and compliance programs for corporations and trade associations.
A Challenging Market
He had previously served as director general of the Bureau of Economic Affairs, where he engaged in JFTC competition advocacy activities, was responsible for competition policy in the government, compliance program for businesses, including reviewing merger proposals.
Prior to that, he worked as a director general of the Investigation Bureau, where he was in charge of the enforcement of the Antimonopoly Act, the firm said in a statement.

On a Tear
Since the end of 2016 White & Case has been steadily expanding across Australasia. The firm commenced operations in Australia with a pair of new offices and made senior hires in Hong Kong and China.
Nels Hansen also joined the firm’sjoined the firm’s Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, in Tokyo in June this year, Hansen has experience advising clients on a broad range of corporate transactions, including more than $100 billion in completed mergers and acquisitions, hostile or contested transactions, investments and joint ventures.
