Authorities in Malaysia are wasting no time in probing tainted wealth fund 1MDB. A special taskforce formed to scrutinize the controversial investment vehicle will meet on Tuesday May 22.
Malaysia’s anti-corruption commission has called on former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak to give a statement about tarnished wealth fund 1 MDB.
The move follows the announcement from the Prime Minister’s office of the rapid formation of the investigation unit to look into any wrongdoing by individuals responsible for the management of the fund, «Business Insider» reports.
Appear in Person
Malaysia’s anti-corruption commission has since served notice on the recently deposed Najib for his statement to be recorded in relation to a probe into SRC International, a former unit of a subsidiary of 1MDB. Najib will have to appear in person at the anti-corruption commission headquarters to have his statement recorded.
In 2015 the anti-corruption agency began a probe on SRC International following allegations it had transferred millions of ringgit into Najib’s private accounts. Najib has denied any misconduct related to 1MDB and was cleared by the attorney-general at the time.
