The wealth management arm of the Royal Bank of Canada has hired two fixed income specialists to enhance its advisory investment solutions for private banking clients in Asia.
RBC Wealth Management has announced the appointment of Shawn Sim as head of fixed income advisory, responsible for driving the growth of the company’s fixed income portfolio advisory services for clients across Asia.
Sim joins from HSBC Private Bank, where he was a fixed income advisor. He was previously part of RBC Wealth Management's fixed income team from 2014 to 2018, and worked for OCBC Securities before that. He reports to Chun Him Tam, who heads RBC Wealth Management’s fixed income and ultra-high-net-worth solutions groups in the region.
«We continue to see opportunities in the Asian fixed income market, but with low interest rates and greater risk of credit events, clients will need to be even more selective and nimble,» Tam said in the announcement.
Growing Team
Kennard Ling (pictured below) joins the firm as a fixed income specialist, reporting to Sim. He joins from Citibank Singapore, where he was responsible for business growth across Asia-Pacific at its advisory and trading desk. He was previously a corporate sales analyst for FX and rates at Standard Chartered Bank.

The two new hires join RBC's growing teams in Asia. In August, it announced the appointment of executive director Jason Tong to serve the financial and wealth planning needs of its HNW and UHNW clients.
In July, the firm announced that Ada Chan, senior director, and Cheryl Ong, director, joined RBC Wealth Management's team in Singapore. In May, it hired two senior wealth planning hires to cover the region: wealth planner Alvin Chiam, as part of its Singapore team, and associate director, business development Belle (Jing) Hu, based in Beijing.
