Ex-Goldman Sachs partner Tim Leissner’s credibility was placed under scrutiny by the defendant of the ongoing 1MDB trial, with accusations of discrepancies from various claims.
In the third week of Roger Ng’s 1MDB trial, defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, questioned the discrepancies between Tim Leissner’s answers to the prosecutor and previous statements made to the FBI.
The inquiry could potentially play a critical role in informing the jury’s perception of Leissner’s credibility with regards to claims that Ng had indeed received 1MDB-linked kickbacks, which the defendant has denied.
FBI Statements
Agnifilo questioned Leissner on various events including the sharing of a bribe recipient list with U.S. authorities specifically on April 2021, Ng’s attendance of specific meetings, the drafting of a letter and the delivery of a separate letter.
Leisure mostly did not recall the specific event and, in the case of the letter delivery, recalled differently with himself as the sender rather than ex-1MDB general counsel Jasmine Loo, as per Agnifilo.
The letter, which Leissner described as personal, was meant to be from ex-Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
