A former Wall Street Journal editor has been appointed as the new chief executive of financial industry group ASIFMA.
The Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) appoints Peter Stein as CEO, according to a statement, effective 8 February 2024. Based in Hong Kong, he succeeds Alice Law who resigned from the role in July 2023.
Stein is currently the CEO of the Private Wealth Management Association (PWMA), a fellow industry group, after being named to the role in July 2021. Prior to joining PWMA in December 2016, he worked at UBS as its head of regulatory advisory and relations, APAC and also served as an ASIFMA board member during his time with the Swiss bank.
Before that, Stein worked at the Wall Street Journal as a writer for more than 20 years, last as its Hong Kong bureau chief.

ASIFMA is an independent regional trade association representing 170 firms including banks, asset managers, law firms and market infrastructure service providers. Its list of members includes the likes of HSBC, UBS, BlackRock and more.
