Paris-based BNP Paribas was the leader in 2023 in terms of fees generated from environmentally friendly financing.
At $130 million, BNP Paribas was the leading fee generator in green financing in 2023, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. This was followed by Credit Agricole ($96 million), HSBC ($94 million), Bank of China ($89 million) and Bank of America ($85 million).
Overall, the world’s largest banks generated around $3 billion in total fees last year from extending $583 billion in green bonds and loans. In comparison, banks channeled $594 billion into environmentally friendly projects in 2022.
