Who will be Julius Bär's next chairman? The guessing is over: A Brit is set to succeed Romeo Lacher, who announced his resignation in January at a major financial institution.
The news came on Friday evening: Noel Quinn is proposed as the new chairman of Julius Bär by the board for the upcoming general meeting.
The general meeting will take place on April 10, 2025. Quinn succeeds Romeo Lacher, who announced on January 27, 2025, that he would not stand for re-election.
Assumption of Office in May
However, Quinn is not expected to assume his office until May 1, 2025, as stated in the announcement. The reason given is "other commitments." No further details were provided.
Until the end of April, Richard Campbell-Breeden, Vice Chairman of the Board, will therefore serve as the chairman.
Long Career at HSBC
Quinn, born in 1962, is British and brings over 37 years of experience in the financial industry, particularly with HSBC and its predecessor companies.
He stepped down in 2024 after serving five years as Group Chief Executive. Previously, he held senior positions such as CEO Global Commercial Banking, Regional Head of Commercial Banking Asia Pacific, and Head of Commercial Banking UK. He is currently a non-executive board member of the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
«Noel Quinn’s expertise will be a valuable asset to the board as we enter a new phase of growth and further development of the company,» said Campbell-Breeden.
Another Departure
As further announced by Julius Bär on Friday, Andrea Sambo will also not stand for re-election at the general meeting in April 2025; alongside Lacher, this marks the second resignation. Sambo intends to return to an operational role in the business. He was elected to the board in 2024.
In the future, the board is expected to consist of eight members.
Strategy Update in London
Additionally, the Zurich-based traditional bank announced on Friday that it will present its strategy update with new medium-term goals on June 3, 2025. The presentation will take place in London.
