When Amazon hit it big in the early 2000s, Jeff Bezos began attracting attention as part of the new guard of tech entrepreneurs. His biographer wrote in 2013 that MacKenzie’s early involvement in Amazon included writing checks, keeping track of inventory, and negotiating freight rates.
She herself put it this way: «I worked with him [Jeff] and many others represented in the converted garage, the basement warehouse closet, the barbecue-scented offices, the Christmas-rush distribution centers, and the door-desk filled conference rooms in the early years of Amazon’s history.» Her involvement in making Amazon the $790 billion juggernaut it is today will make it hard to discern where his assets end and hers begin.
