Fintech Revolut has named a co-founder of Southeast Asian e-commerce platform Lazada as its general manager for Asia Pacific.
Charles Debonneuil will join Revolut, which clams more than 18 million customers, as the Asia Pacific general manager as the global fintech plans to focus on growth in the region, the company said in a press release Monday. He will focus on local teams and developing strategy to drive rapid user acquisition, the release said.
Previously, Debonneuil was a co-founder and chief marketing officer at Lazada, a Southeast Asian e-commerce platform acquired by Alibaba in 2016, the release said. He was also the president of Intrepid Group, an e-commerce service company for global brands, the release said.
Scaling in Asia
Ankit Khemka, global general manager and head of marketing at Revolut, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Charles to Revolut as we double down on our commitment in the APAC region. As we continue to deliver more of our core products to the region, Charles’ extensive expertise is a valuable addition in helping us scale our presence in the Asia-Pacific market and getting our global superapp into the hands of more customers.”
Debonneuil’s appointment follows Revolut’s move in December to hire Deepak Khanna as its head of wealth and trading.
In December, Revolut said it would launch a stock trading feature on its Singapore app after obtaining a Capital Markets Services (CMS) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). In January, Revolut said it would add a commodity trading feature for Singapore users to provide gold and silver exposure.
Within Asia Pacific, Revolut has teams in Australia, Singapore, India and Japan. Its headquarters is in London. The fintech’s services include money transfer, payments and foreign exchange as well as offering savings planning, single-use credit cards and commodity investments.
