OCBC appoints a new head for its consumer banking and wealth management businesses and maps out a strategy for accelerated growth.
OCBC has named Sunny Quek as its head of global consumer financial services, according to a statement.
The appointment is effective immediately, and he will report to group chief executive Helen Wong. In the role, Quek will lead the consumer banking and wealth management businesses in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Greater China. The businesses are managed under the brands of OCBC Premier Banking and OCBC Premier Private Client. As part of his new function, he will become a member of the management executive committee.
Quek joined OCBC in September 2012 as its head of branch and premier banking for Singapore before moving on to become head of consumer financial services for the city-state in November 2019. Previously, he was a branch banking director at Citibank Singapore.
Accelerated Growth
Under Quek’s leadership, the Singapore consumer and wealth unit achieved record net interest income results, while growing fee-based revenue and tripling the number of green, or environmental, loans. Moreover, the OCBC Premier Private Client unit doubled the level of assets under management.
According to the statement, Quek has already mapped out a strategy to accelerate growth for the consumer banking franchise across the region, although it did not provide additional details beyond that.
«[Quek] has delivered strong financial results for the consumer banking and wealth management businesses, year after year. Rolling out innovative talent management programs and initiatives, [he] has also built a strong team to drive the businesses further,» said Wong. «Well respected by his peers within the OCBC Group, I am confident [Quek] will be a valuable contributor to the senior management team.»
