Hong Kong-based private equity firm Gaw Capital Partners has hired a former Macquarie banker to join as climate tech strategist for Australia.
Oliver Yates joins Gaw Capital Partners to lead climate tech strategy for Australia, according to a statement. In the role, he will lead the private equity firm’s strategic expansion in Australia with a focus on investments in climate tech and the energy transition.
Previously, Yates worked at Macquarie Group in various leadership roles including US country head, Macquarie Capital Private Placements co-head and Macquarie Capital Financial Products co-head. He also led the establishment of Clean Energy Finance Corp (CEFC) as its CEO, with A$10 billion ($6.8 billion) of commitments to work with various partners to accelerate Australia’s investments into the clean energy sector.
Sustainable Investing
According to Gaw Capital, it is expanding investment activities in the climate tech, energy transition and sustainability sectors. Other initiatives include investments in climate-related themes such as the development and construction of utility-scale battery storage systems, EV charging infrastructure and next-generation long-duration energy storage technology.
Founded in 2005, Gaw Capital is a Hong Kong-headquartered private equity firm focused on real estate, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. It has raised equity totaling $22.3 billion since 2005 and as of the third quarter of 2023, it had $33.7 billion in assets under management.
