Goldman Sachs appointed a veteran banker as its new chairman and chief executive officer in Asia Pacific and made other regional management changes.

According to an internal memo seen by finews.asia Ken Hitchner will become the new chairman and chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific Ex-Japan.

Prior to assuming his current role in 2013 as president of Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific Ex-Japan, Hitchner served as global head of the Healthcare Banking Group and global co-head of the Technology, Media and Telecom Group. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1991 in the Corporate Finance Department and joined the Healthcare Banking Group as a founding member in 1995. He was named managing director in 2000 and partner in 2002.

The memo also noted that James Paradise and Todd Leland will become co-presidents of Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific Ex-Japan, working closely with Hitchner and Masa Mochida, president of Goldman Sachs Japan, in managing Goldman's businesses and day-to-day operations in the region as a whole.

Southeast Asian Moves

Paradise currently serves as co-head of the Securities Division franchise in Asia Pacific. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1989 to build and lead Japanese equity-linked warrant distribution. He established and led the European Emerging Markets business, and relocated to Asia in 2000.

Leland is currently global co-head of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) within the Investment Banking Division (IBD). Based in London, he is also responsible for the coverage of financial institutions across EMEA. He joined Goldman Sachs in New York as an associate in FIG in 1992 and relocated to London to co-head EMEA FIG in 2007. He was named managing director in 2000 and partner in 2006.

The bank also named Udhay Furtado and Harry Naysmith as co-heads of its investment banking division in Southeast Asia. Furtado joined Goldman Sachs in 2006 as an executive director in the U.S. investment banks’ Financing Group in Hong Kong and was named managing director in 2009. Naysmith joined as a senior adviser in 2013, leading Goldman Sachs’ investment banking business in Indonesia.
