Japanese Girl Group Takes Aim at Crypto
A Japanese talent agency has launched female superheroes to represent cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, ether, and ripple. The squad wants to educate and caution consumers.
The «Virtual Currency Girls» is an eight-women squad representing cryptocurrencies in a bid to raise awareness of their potential, according to media reports.
The women, from as young as 15 up to twenty-somethings, are fashioned as idols to appeal to the masses of potential crypto consumers. The brainchild of Japan's Cinderella Academy, the women seem to be warning of lax regulation as prices for cryptocurrencies skyrocket.
«If you leave as it is, there will be a massive crash somewhere, and the number of people who make a big loss will increase,» the group said of the wave of speculative buying that has gripped Asia and led regulators to warn consumers.
«Not for Speculation»
Though the group is clearly aimed at Japanese consumers, who are among the most fevered for cryptocurrencies, they would find favor in Singapore. There, the financial regulator recently warned investors off spending money on cryptocurrencies, amid a surge in the value of bitcoin and other tokens.
The troupe, which accepts digital tokens as payment for their love shows and merchandise, seeks «to promote [through] entertainment that virtual currency is not a tool for speculation but a technology that creates a wonderful future.»
South Korea, which along with Japan has fuelled the massive demand from Asia for cryptocurrencies, already signalled it will tighten controls in an attempt to clamp down on speculative buying.
