With the competition in insurtech set to intensify, AIA has hired a chief digital officer. He joins from a digital life insurance company in Japan.
Pan-Asia life insurer AIA named a digital insurance pioneer as chief digital officer. Based in Hong Kong, Daisuke Iwase will take on the new role and serve a member of the AIA executive committee. Iwase will join AIA on July 1, 2018, the company said in a statement.
Iwase currently serves as chairman of Lifenet Insurance, a listed digital direct life insurance company in Japan. He co-founded Lifenet in 2006, and took the company public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2012.
Bulking Up
In a push to digitize its Asian business, the company named Gunawan Chiu Wu Pin chief technology officer of AIA Singapore in March. The insurer also bulked up its scale across the region acquiring all of Commonwealth Bank of Australia's CommInsure and Sovereign business units last year for $3.8 billion. The deal included a 20-year bancassurance partnership with AIA for the provision of life insurance products to customers in Australia and New Zealand.
