Singapore gaming company Razer on Thursday opened its new headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the company's third after Singapore and San Francisco.
Malaysia was the first country where Razer Pay was rolled out, and the new headquarters, which will house 280 employees, will be used as a springboard for the firm's fintech initiatives in the region.
Commitment to E-Sports
«Razer will also focus on bringing in and developing the right talent and infrastructure. The opening of this office is a clear sign of our commitment; after all, we want to make Malaysia our development hub as part of our expansion plans for digital payments» Razer CEO Tan Min-Liang said at the opening, Marketing Magazine reported.
In addition, Razer signaled its commitment to e-sports, matching the Malaysia government's RM10 million (S$3.32 million) allocation.
Singapore Rollout
Razer is accelerating its efforts to grab a slice of the growing e-payments market in Southeast Asia. It acquired Southeast Asia-focused e-payment network MOL for S$81 million in April 2018, and in May, announced its partnership with Singtel to unify regional payments. finews.asia previously reported Razer's partnership with UOB to pioneer a non-bank, e-wallet app to offer both transfers and cash-outs through FAST.
Razer announced that it would launch its e-wallet in Singapore in the first quarter of 2019, with a view to issuing 1 million wallets in Singapore by April 2019.
