J.P. Morgan’s Hong Kong staff will be reimbursed for quarantine stays when returning to the city from travel to meet family, in a new policy launched shortly after the visit of chief executive Jamie Dimon.

Hong Kong-based executive directors and lower-leveled staff will receive a reimbursement of up to $5,000 for quarantine stays when returning to the city from travel visit immediate family between December 1 and November 30, according to an «SCMP» report citing a memo.

«We recognize that the costly quarantine measures in place in Hong Kong associated with Covid-19 have impacted many of you with respect to visiting family and loved ones overseas,» the bank said in the memo.

«As a firm, we would like to help and with this in mind, we have introduced a new quarantine reimbursement program in an effort to support employees wishing to travel overseas to see immediate family.»

Jamie Dimon Visit

The Covid-related benefits were announced after a recent visit by J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to Hong Kong who said the aim was to thank his 4,000 employees in the city.

Dimon's 32-hour trip was one of the first known visits with exemptions to Hong Kong's strict quarantine measures which include up to up to 21 days in a hotel for fully vaccinated persons.

Covid-Zero Resistance

Meanwhile, the business community continues to call on the city’s authorities to ease their Covid restrictions, including financial industry group ASIFMA and the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.

Last week, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) Tara Joseph resigned, citing her inability to appeal to the city’s government to ease such restrictions as the reason for stepping down.

«It is not in my nature to advocate on something, and then embark on quarantine like a stooge,» according to a «Reuters» report citing Joseph who will remain the position for six months while AmCham seeks her replacement.
