The annual salary of longstanding UOB chief executive Wee Ee Cheong climbed higher in 2021 and surpassed the 2019 pay level following a difficult year in 2020.

UOB CEO and deputy chairman Wee Ee Cheong’s annual salary in 2021 rose 11.5 percent to S$10.9 million, according to the bank’s annual report released yesterday.

The compensation includes a base salary of S$1.2 million and a bonus of $9.7 million alongside other benefits.

The increased pay surpasses 2019 levels after Wee saw his pay drop 8.8 percent to S$9.8 million in 2020 due to Covid-related challenges in the business environment.

In comparison, fellow banking Singapore chief from DBS, Piyush Gupta, saw his 2021 pay surge by around 48 percent to nearly S$13.6 million.
