New York-based BNY Mellon has hired a senior executive from Nomura for its Japanese business.
Kunio Watanabe has been appointed as Japan country executive and representative for the Bank of New York (BNY) Mellon, Tokyo Branch, according to a statement. He will be responsible for leading BNY Mellon’s Japan business and join the Asia Pacific leadership council as a member.
Watanabe has nearly four decades of experience in financial services across investment banking, wealth management and asset management in Europe, Asia and the US. He was most recently executive chairman of Nomura Holding America and, prior to that, he was CEO of Nomura Asset Management.
«Japan is a critically important market for BNY Mellon,» said head of APAC Fangfang Chen. «Kunio’s significant experience in financial services will be pivotal as we continue to support clients with technology, services and expertise across our platforms, so they can meet their goals across the entire financial lifecycle.»
