A significant portion of high net worth investors in Asia have experience in investing in alternatives, according to a survey by Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions, outdoing those in North America.

More than three-quarters of high net worth investors in Asia have experience with alternatives, according to a survey released by the Alts Institute of Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions. Despite the region often being named as a nascent investor in the asset class, it still outdid North American high net worth investors, of which only 54 percent said that had alternatives experience.

«Asia Pacific is a strategically important region for Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions and our proprietary research underscores the growing demand for alternatives from HNW investors, as well as the critical role that their financial professionals play,» said Jeremy Hall, managing director and head of Asia Pacific for Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions.

Increasing Demand

Of the existing APAC alternatives investors, 87 percent are open to adding exposure to the asset class with 44 percent saying they are comfortable with an allocation of 25 percent of their portfolio or above.

88 percent want their financial professional to speak to them more about alternatives. 87 percent trust their financial professional to make the right decisions on alternatives but still want to understand the investments.

The survey was conducted by independent research firm CoreData Research on investors with at least $2.5 million in investable household assets. Within Asia, respondents were from Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.
