Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group named a veteran Asia banker poached from a British rival as its new chief executive.

MUFG Securities Asia named Pierre Ferland as its new chief executive, effective immediately. Ferland, a 16-year veteran of Royal Bank of Scotland currently based in Hong Kong, replaces Yasutaka Suehiro, who has taken on the job of chairman of Asia for MUFG's securities unit.

He joined RBS in 2001 in Tokyo as a branch manager and country executive, and was named to run the British bank's financial institutions management three years later. He has also co-headed the bank's capital resolution unit and run its corporate and institutional banking arm in Asia.
