Cryptocurrencies have a fundamental value, Lidia Bolla, head of digital token asset manager Vision& tells finews.asia in an interview.
Lidia Bolla, how has the blockchain and crypto-focused Vision& been doing since you began operations in March?
The advantage of starting our blockchain asset manager was that we had been working behind the scenes for more than six months with building up partnerships, legal structures, and research capacity. This ensured a seamless operative start in March, and we are very satisfied so far.
The market mood has stabilized, and the phase of intense hype of last December is over. This affords the industry an exceedingly valuable opportunity to consolidate, build secure structures, and build up realistic expectations about the potential for returns.
How much in assets does Vision& manage, and what are your targets?
If we were focused on building structures the last few months, we are ready to focus on growth. Going by current commitments for investment, we expect solid growth in the coming months.
«Upcoming generations can spot all the beauty of cryptocurrencies»
Our next targets are expanding our product line as well as clinching strategic partnerships with traditional wealth and asset managers.
Prominent investors like Warren Buffet, Mark Mobius or Nouriel Roubini have slammed cryptocurrencies. Is this perceptible in your dealings with clients?
Statements from people like this naturally do lead to questions from clients. They are investors with many years of experience – but what we should't forget – with their own agenda and a generational perspective. The upcoming generations view the beauty of cryptocurrencies and other crypto assets due through the prism of their digital savvy. To dismiss this as simply youthful exuberance would be fatal though.
Instead, all generations should attempt to develop an understanding for technology and its potential. Of course there are exaggerations in this young market, but it is exactly the experience and expertise of established investors which will be enormously helpful here. Shouldn't we delve into what we don't understand, instead of warning about it?
Many investors fear the massive price volatility in bitcoin. Will this boom continue, or where do you see the price of bitcoin at year-end?
The boom is sure to continue at this pace. We're talking about a young asset class which is still demonstrating high levels of volatility. Investors need to be aware of this. The high fluctuation is linked to an above-average potential return.
