He takes over from outgoing head of global capital markets Mark Burmeister, who has taken up the role of vice chairman of capital markets, Australia.
Morgan Stanley has a new capital markets head in Australia – James McKenna, who relocates from Hong Kong, where he was managing director of fixed income capital markets.
In his new role, McKenna will lead the day-to-day operations of the investment bank's global capital markets team and will work closely with head of equity capital markets Bryce Thompson, the «Australian Financial Review» reported on Thursday, citing an internal announcement to staff this week.
McKenna, who joined Morgan Stanley in 2005, has also previously worked with the Morgan Stanley's Australian investment banking team.
New Role for Seasoned Banker
As vice chairman of capital markets, Australia, Burmeister will focus on the origination of new deals and clients, and managing existing client relationships.
The senior executive has more than three decades' experience in the industry. He joined the U.S. firm in 2010 as head of equity capital markets, following six years at UBS.
During his time in the role, Burmeister was involved in numerous large raises, including for Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, Woodside Petroleum and Transurban. He was also involved in the demergers of Clydesdale Bank from NAB and Bluescope Steel from BHP, «AFR» noted.
