Hong Kong dropped out of the top 25 most liveable cities for Asian expatriates according to the latest research published by mobility solutions provider ECA International.
Low crime rates, easy access to good quality schools and lower levels of pollution than regional peers meant Singapore again topped the chart. Hong Kong ranks 28th.
China's Pollution Battle
While Hong Kong and Singapore regularly vie to be Asia's leading financial hub, quality of life is overlooked. ECA International's annual location ratings system objectively evaluates a host of factors including personal safety, political tensions and air quality.
Extensive internet censorship and the ban on virtual private networks together with worsening pollution meant several Chinese cities fell in their liveability scores, Beijing dropping 10 places to 134th on the list.
